Middle school report card reflects standards-based learning and grading

The goal of standards-based learning and grading is to provide students with a clear understanding of what they are expected to learn and how they will show their learning.

LPS teachers are dedicated to teaching and providing students opportunities to become skillful learners who take ownership in their learning. We commit to operating and implementing programs that rise above the status quo. Standards-based learning, complemented by standards-based grading, is one of those programs. This program helps to provide both students and parents a clearer indication of what has been learned, while also developing a stronger foundation for our students’ future learning as they move to the next grade level.

We want to communicate what your child knows and is able to do through standards-based grading. LPS now uses a 0-4 point grading scale. Infinite Campus has been updated to clearly reflect the standards students are working toward. Academic standards and behavior standards are graded separately. Standards-based grading practices are common across all LPS middle schools. Your child’s Infinite Campus account will clearly communicate his or her success toward learning goals. Please visit with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress and if you have any questions.
